The latter company owns a controlling in- terest in the New Dominion Cop- per Co,, so the production of the Rawhide mine, in Phoenix camp, is included in the quantity shown as British Columbia Copper Co’s production. Copper recoveries from Rossland ores appear to have been about 2,330,000 pounds while the Coast mines are cred- ited with between 15,000,000 and 16,000,000 pounds, nearly all of which comes from Britannia Co’s mines near Howe Sonnd, with the ‘remainder, except a. small quantity from the Red Cliff in the Portland Canal division, from the Marble Bay mine on Texada Island. ' It ig noteworthy that copper now leads in the aggregate val- ue of production of individual metals in all years; that is, if placer and lode gold be taken separately. The respective ag- gregate figures are : copper $78, - 668,000; placer gold, $72,139, 000 lode gold $76,497,000, The de- velopment of the copper mining industry in the province may be ~ strikingly illustrated by compar. |. ing the relative totals of these several metals as at the close of the year 1900 with those just mentioned. They were: placer gold, $62,584,000; lode gold, $12,- 813,000; copper, $4,363,000, A comparison of these. figures shows that copper has taken a leading place in the metalliferous production of British Columbia for while, during the twelve years, 1901-1912, the total pro- duction of lode gold has been val- ued at $57,694,000, and of placer gold only $9,555,000, that of cop- per has been $69,291; 000. : "Zine . The adverse conditions. that throughout 1911 affected the pro- duction of zinc, so far as con- cerned the Whitewater and the Lucky Jim mines, in the Slocaa, | continued until 1912 was well ad- toward its close. In fact they still exist, as affecting the White- water gronp, for the concentra- ting mill destroyed by fire in the summer of 1910 has not yet been replaced, although transportation || facilities have been restored. The latter improvement made it} my ~ practicable for the shipment of | zinc-ore from the Lucky Jim | mine to be resumed in the fol- K lowing autumn, IH Most of the zinc bearing mat- | Bf concentrate, made aa a second | B product in mills concentrating | Bf ores also containing lead and sil-! yy ver. In round figures the zinc| recovered from concentrates was as follows: from the Standaré Co's shipments, 2,706, 000 pounds; Van-Roi Co’s, 2,317,000 pounds; Monarch mine 1,000,000 pounds. Recovery from Lucky Jim ore shipped crude was probably 3,- 000,000 pounds (returns have not! Ef yet been received), and from Noble Five ore, 200, 000 - pounds. In estimating an output of 8,600- 000, as included in the foregoing table, it is thought a sale mar- gin has been allowed.
