Jr, the man who immortalized
B.'s Chileotin Country in a
best-selling book, diel August 6,

Mr, Hobson, author of “Grass
Beyond the Mountains,” died Sun-
day at his River Ranch, 50 miles
south of Vanderhoof. He was 68.
-The book, published in 1951,
told the story of the discovery of
the last great cattle frontier in
North America — the great graz-
ing areas beyond the Algak -and
Icha mountain rangea in northern
B.C.

Mr, Hobson, one of the first cat-
tlemen to venture into the Chil-
cotin, wrote two subsequent novels
and was working on a fourth, "To
Hell With The White Man,” when
he. died. All the books were writ-
ten on the basis of the author's
experiences in that area.

He lived part of the time in
Palm Desert, Calif; and the rest
in the Vanderhoof area.

Born the son of a grominent
American admiral, he worked
briefly as a real estate broker in
New York until the stock “market
crash of 1920. . .

The following year, Mr. Hobson
went “roughnecking” in the Texas
