Mr. M.B. Walton, 2393 Scott Place, mentioned that several condominium developments he had seen have become slums, and ‘suggested that the site could be used fer senior citizens' housing instead. Mr. Don “Ray of @™ Association of Concerned Citizens, referred to a meeting he had attended in Victoria when Premier Barrett had stated that schools would he provided where there is an emergency, and Mr. Ray pointed out that there is such an emergency in Port Coquitlam, Mrs. Barbara Fullerton, 2472 Chilcott Avenue, mentioned that during the recent municipal election campaign, certain Aldermen indicated they were pro “oreen belt" and inquired why the City does not buy the property in question for park purposes. Alderman Traboulay commented that adequate school accommodation has been a problem facing the City for a long time, and he also stated he felt the proposed development would be a great intrusion into the life-style of ti.e resi- dents concerned, mentioning that “high density brings about intensity" Moved by Alderman Traboulay: That the previous resolution of Council approving in principle the proposed Townhouse Development at 3385-3441 Hastings Street be rescinded ; \ND THAT the School Board be urged to construct more schools in the City. Alderman Mabbett stated that school accommodation is a problem, particularly on the North side of the City, and commented that the School Board is not acting on this situation even though a Trustee attends ali Planning & zoning Committee meetings and monthly reports are provided to the Board in regard to planning. Alderman Mabbett stated he felt it is up to the people to attend School Board meetings and put their case before it. Mayor Campbell suggested that what the petitioners are really opposed to ig the type of development proposed, and the delegation in attendance generally indicated this to be the case. Alderman Laking mentioned that although a "freeze" was imposed by the Council on residential dev- elopment in 1972, no further school construction took place, and he pointed out that even if a further freeze is imposed, the Government may still construct housing in the City. from the Parks & Recreation Committee, May 24th, 1974, advising that Mr. J.C. J.C. Stobie , re arena @ rie, President of J.C. Stobie and Associates, Inc., would be in attendance to advertising speak to a proposal set forth in his letter dated April 15th, 1974, concerning ad- vertising in the existing arena and the one presently under construction. Hr. Stobie then spoke to his proposal and stated he represented the firm Can Arena Ads and that the principle objective is te supply problem areas insofar as advertising
