At our last board meeting we finalized the commirtees and had a general discussion about what each group will be focusing on this year, Here is a brief overview of our program for 93 - 99: The Gallery committee consists of Faye Hickey, Jane Matthews, myself and Laura van der Linde. Our main gual chis year is wo stimulare business by reorganizing the space and execuang a renovarion that will include enlarging inco the former Studio 3 space. The Newsletter committee (Rosemary Amon, Heather Caims, Gillian MacMillan, Karen Opas and Frank Turco) will continue to oversee and improve the production of the Newsletter. The Events committee of Rhonda Green, Aaron Nelson and Celia Rice-Jones, will be coordinating workshops and special social events (like “How do they do thar?"). | These events take considerable time and effort to organize and we appreciate the commitment of these guild members. The Resource Centre committee (Rhonda Green, Celia Rice-Jones and Debra Sloan) have agreed to spruce up the library and meeting roam oo make ic more user- friendly. The storage space created by the Gallery renovation will help in this goal. Ron Feiche is the new board liaison and organizer for "Mace of Clay". He will be on a steep learning curve initially, and would welcome your support and suggestions. Debra Sloan will look inte a possible relocation for the Guild Studio. Frank Turco, Dena Nabaca and Debra Sloan will be lecking into ways of increasing our membership, as it seems there are a significant number of potters who are not members. We welcome any suggestions from you on hew to make the Guild more relevance and attractive to new members. Aaron Nelson will be investigating alternative sources of funding for che Guild, ie, public or private funding bodies. Janet Turpin continues as our Treasurer, und Gilliam MacMillan remains our Secretary And we must noc forget Linda Doherty, who is continuing with che book publication and has already devored an immense amount of time to the project. Anyone who would like co help, parcicularly with the book sales, should contact Jane or Linda, These and upcoming fund-raisers should keep us out of trouble for a while. Ron Vallis _ Seay North West Ceramics Foundation We are delighted to announce that the Foundation has received a donation af $10,000 for the endowment fund. The denor wishes to remain anonymous, This generous gift has given us a wonderful boost and we anticipate thar once the fund reaches $25,000 we can begin to disburse additional scholarships through the interest. Work had continued throughout the summer on our next fund-raising event “From the Oven and the Kiln!", As outlined in the last newslecter, several plane decorating workshops have taken place. Participants came with ar least three biscuit fired plates which they decorated using techniques demonstrated by visiting artists. Two of the plates and, in many cases, all three, were donated to the Feundarion for the upcoming event. Special thanks to Vincent Massey, Ronda Green and the students of Eagle Harbour Community Centre; Don Hurchinson, June MacDonald and the sradents of Place des Arts; Leslie Lloyd and members of the Cariboo Porrers’ Guild (Tam’s too madest te mention it, but he wars the also involved, ed}; D' Arey Margesson, poge 3 Sabrina Keskula and the students of the RoundHouse Community Centre. Team BC will be cooking a five course dinner with accompanying wines in the Grand Pacific Ballroom of the Delta Pacific Resort and Conference Cenrre on Friday, Seprember 25, There will be a reception and silent auction at 6:30 PM, followed by dinner at 7:30 PM. The profits from the sale of tickes will be allocated to the Potters Guild of BC's Scholarship and Education fund, and profics from che silent auction will be donated to the book “Made of Clay -che Ceramics of BC", We are very pleased to announce that the Jumpstart scholarship, originally a three year commitment, will be continued for a further period by our donor, Guidelines for application are currently being reviewed and any changes will be announced in the next newslerrer. A warm welcome is extended to Nicole Schouela who has joined the NW'CF board. Nicole is a Vancouver artist working primarily in clay. Her work is currently on display in the “Made By Hand" show at the Canadian Craft Museum. She has a Masters degree in dance from Mills College, California and is now entering her senior year at the Emily Carr Institute of Art & Design as a Ceramics Major. Tam Irving
