The club also wants to make the space available to any group who needs a covered ' area for its events. That means construction quotes will in- clude specificiations for a multi-use facility. “Say we want to rent it out for a concert “or something, it can’t just be to the code for riding in,” says Cathy Jackson, the head of | the indoor arena committee. “It'll be treated as though it could be used for multiple functions.” _ The original proposed size of 110 x 260 feet has been modified to 110 x 220 feet to bring it in ata cost of $400,000, which in- . cludes the foundation. Forty fewer feet won’t be missed as the _ building will still be larger than the rings-the > - _ club uses now. , The size will allow for a riding arena plus bleachers, a holding ring, barrel racing and will enable the club to host provincial com- petitions. The club received a $233,000 grant from the B.C.-Canada Infrastructure Program last ‘year to start it on its way toward construc- tion of the arena. = The club has received a $5,000 dona- tion from the Farm Credit Canada AgriSp- irit Fund, which provides money for capital projects in rural communities with popula- tions under 100,000. ’ The club put out tenders to four differ- ent companies for a quote after several ap- proached them with different numbers. The bidding companies included Aurora Shelters of Edmonton, Alberta, Everlast from Saskatchewan, Econo Structures of Sundre, Alberta and Coverall from Grande — Prairie, Alberta. Jackson says ‘the club chose Coverall, whom they felt had the best product. The Totem Saddle Club hosts a variety of riding and other events throughout the year. And it has been a mainstay of activities © 47110 Keith Ave., Terrace (All West Glass Centre] which is also held at the Thornhill Commu. ~ nity Grounds. surrounding the Skeena.
