Baptists on their way here

AT LEAST 50 delegates are expected here
May 15-17 when the B.C. .Association of
North American Baptists holds its annual
conference in Terrace.

It'll happen at the Zion Baptist Church at
2911 Sparks St.

There are 27 NAB churches in B.C,

Organizers say it will be the first visit to
the northwest for many congregation repre-
sentatives.

the North American Baptist Conference,
will also be attending and speaking during
ihe Sunday moming service.

The Baptist denomination began in
Britain during the 17th century, spread to
Germany and then to North America. They
were distinct in their belief in adult baptism
by immersion, now called the believer’s
baptism.

Also on May 10th, the church marks its
first Sunday with the summer youth pastor.

Ed burst into the veterinagians office, his
prize sled dog named Driver in his arms.

Ignoring all the pecple waiting in the recep-
tion room, he threw open the door to the
‘examining room, where the vet was preparing
the examining table.

This is a terrible emergency. My dog has
calen his harness. Help him immediately or
he will die.

The veterinarian dropped everything and
carried the dog into the x-ray room.

Ed waited outside.

The vet came out.

Ed, the x-rays dont show anything. But Im
concerned. There has to be some terrible
blockage, A dogs harness is not digestible.
Leave him with me overnight. | want to keep
him under observation. :

Ed left. The next day he returned,

So hows Driver? he asked the receptionist.

Your dog seems to be doing just fine.

Ed made up his mind on the spot.

Then Im taking Driver home. No need to
spend time and money if my dog is doing fine.

Ed went into the kennels, took Driver out of
his kennel and put him in his pickup truck.

The vet ran out trying to stap Ed from driv-
ing away.

Ed, what in tarnation are you doing? I hav-
ent had a chance to take a second se! of x-

Ed refused to listen, muttering under his

Driver got worse. Ed didnt call, the vet.

When he finally brought Driver to the vet,
it was too late, he died shortly after being
admitted.

The autopsy showed that his intestines
were completely blocked up. He could have
been saved. Ed sued.

Ed was outraged, Your Honour, the vet
shouldve helped Driver. 1 told him Driver
swallowed his harness. When { went to pick
up Driver, I wasnt told that it was life-threa-
lening. They said Driver was getting better
and to bring him back if there was any
change. I followed the instructions, Make
the vet for the loss of my poor Driver.

The vet was impassive: Your Honour, [ did
everything I could to save Driver. I taok X-
rays and kept him overnight for observation.
1 pleaded with Ed to allow me to take a
second set of x-rays, Ed chose to take Driver
home. He was supposed to bring him back if
there was any change, Ed waited too long.
Dont make me pay for Eds mistake,

Should the vet have to pay for Drivers
death?
