Start your own holiday
traditions

Keeping your children busy and
involved in seasonal preparations
can help reduce holiday tensions.
Invalve children in making deco-
rations and special holiday foods.
For more fun, start an annual
neighbourhood holiday ormament
and cookie-making party.

It's easy to make ornaments and
labletop decorations out of things
your children have at home-even
popular, colourful construction
toys. Hete are some ideas for this
holiday season to keep your child-
ten busy and happy.

Bake gingerbread of sugar
shaped cookies. Prepare the dough
in advance, When it’s chilled, inv-
ile children to cul shapes and dec-
orate them with colourful sugar
sprinkles. Use them for hostess or
office gifts, entertaining or to hang
on your free.

Another popular tradition is
making a popcorn and cranberry
garland. Use a strong, long sewing
needle threaded with heavy thread.
String popcora and cranberries in
a pattern. Decorate an indoor or
outdoor tree. Outdoors it will feed
the birds and small animais. Add a
twist to garlands using pretzels
tied together with sed or green
yam or ribbon. This is easy for
small children. Don’t forget chains
made of construction. paper.
Simply cut strips and let children
paste them into linking circles
with white paste.

Use your imagination to come
up with other ideas. Keep your
children busy with holiday pro-
jects, and you'll build warm and
lasting holiday memories.
