Adream come true | TERRACE —At 17 years of age Laura Tup- per has seen her teenage dream come true. On Saturday, July 26 she was crowned Miss Ter- race for 1986. by Daniele Berquist “When I heard the judges call my name, said Tupper, I couldn’t believe it. I was very hap- py and excited. Tupper said that she had hoped for the win up to the last minute. The teenager gained the title by displaying musical ‘talents while she played melodies from The Entertainer, Never Sur- render, Music Box Dancer and St. Elmo's Fire. A piano piece by excerpts from selected Mozart was part of her 4 Ce: 4 repertoire. Tupper also displayed a calm disposi- tion during the question and answer period, responding to each ques- tion well and expressive- ly. The elated Tupper went through a two month, workshop, pre- paring for the Miss Ter- workshops she enjoyed was how to prepare and deliver a speech the right way. “George Clark was our instructor, and he was just great,’ Tupper noted. _ Another requirement in preparing for the pageant was a poise workshop. We also learned how to get into a car the right way. That’s foot in first, then. the body follows and not the other way around, It was fun; Sonya Smoley co-ordinated this workshop. Makeup, never a boring subject for a teenager, was demonstrated by Joyce Almgren from Merle Norman. She showed the girls the art of applying. makeup and how to buy it. A jazz dance presented by the contestants was A choreographed by a local dance instructor Vicki Parviainen. Laura Tupper said she would like to extend her appreciation to McDon- ald’s Restaurant for sponsoring her in the event, And also to thank them for their en- couragement. I would like to thank my co- workers at McDonald’s who stood behind me all the way. Over the next year, Tupper will be represent- ing Terrace in various ac- tivities as well as attend- ing other pageants in neighboring towns. Next year, along with a Miss Terrace pageant, ‘plans are being formu- lated to stage a Mr. Ter- race pageant; so fellows be prepared.
