bined with a pancake
breakfast and flea
market, turned into a
successful fund-raising
enterprise for the Ter-
race Kinsmen Club.
Kinsmen spokesman
Steve Mclsack reported a
net gain of approximate-
ly $800 for the service
club from the recent
event, MclIsack said that
about 4,000 bricks were
sold, with tentative sales
for many more.

The Kinsmen Club has
salvage rights to the re-
maining buildings at the
old Skeenaview site, and
MclIsack ‘estimates that.
total proceeds from the
project could go as high

Fireweed, by the way, is
19 percent protein,
which is excellent feed
for ungulates.’’
- Hayes said that it
would work quite well on
cedar/spruce plantations
but not on pine or fir
plantations as the
ungulates will eat the
trees.

Sheep are grazers and
prefer vegetation which
is 18 inches or lower
while goats and elk are
browsers which prefer
‘vegetation above 18 in-
ches.

Right now, the price
for elk meat is $14 per
pound, and New Zea-
land has done well in
developing that market.
In the last dozen years
they have established
over 1000 elk farms.

Ironically, they obtained -

their initial elk from
British Columbia.
