Sheep are grazers and prefer vegetation which is 18 inches or lower while goats and elk are browsers which prefer ‘vegetation above 18 in- ches. Right now, the price for elk meat is $14 per pound, and New Zea- land has done well in developing that market. In the last dozen years they have established over 1000 elk farms. Ironically, they obtained - their initial elk from British Columbia.
