October 21, 1991/240 A regular meeting of the Municipal Council of the Corporation of The City of Port Coquitlam was held in the Council Chambers, Port Coquitlam City Hall, 2580 Shaughnessy Street, Port Coquitlam, B.C. on Monday, October 2ist, 1991, at 7:30 p.m. His Worship Mayor L.M. Traboulay and Aldermen M.D. Gates, J.J. Keryluk, M.J. Gordon, R.H. Talbot, and M.R. Wright in attendance. Also in attendance were Deputy Administrator City Clerk R.A. Freeman, City Engineer I. Zahynacz, Director of Planning C.R. Felip and Secretarial Assistant to the City Clerk S. Rauh. CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES: Moved by Alderman Talbot: Seconded by Alderman Keryluk: That the minutes of the Regular Council meeting held on October 7th, 1991 be taken as read and adopted. Carried His Worship Mayor L.M. Traboulay introduced MLA elect Mike Farnworth and offered words of congratulations. PROCLAMATION: WHEREAS: Amnesty International has designated the week of October 20 to 26 to be Prisoners of Conscience Week; WHEREAS: Amnesty International seeks the release of prisoners of conscience, that is, men, women and children imprisoned. anywhere in world for their beliefs, colour, sex, ethnic origin, language or religious beliefs provided’ they have neither used nor advocated violence; WHEREAS: Amnesty International advocates fair and prompt trials for all prisoners, and the abolition of cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment; WHEREAS: Amnesty International seeks the abolition of torture, consistent with - the United Nations Charter of Human Rights as well as the abolition of the death penalty; AND. WHEREAS: Amnesty International Group #176 will join with groups throughout. the world during the week of October 20 to 26 in conducting activities devoted to the men, women and children suffering from human rights abuses inflicted by their governments, NOW.
