WHEREAS AND WHEREAS a a NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the long distance charges are used to subsidize local exchange rates and residents of smaller communities must, of necessity, utilize long distance for satisfaction of many basic and social needs, thereby subsidizing the larger communities local telephone rates; the British Columbia Telephone Company’s present policy of Providing service ona one Way » point~to-point, basis does not provide for fair and equitable telephone service at a reasonable rate throughout the whole of British Columbia, particularly in comparison with the Alberta Government Telephone Company’s Extended Flat Rate Calling Programme ; U.B.C.M. petition both the British Columbia Telephone Company and the C.R.T.C. to revise the Extended Area Service Policy to allow toll free two way calling, with weighting factors in line with those presently used in Alberta.
