Symposium on Mosquito Control in Edmonton, Alberta, March Ist to 4th,

1976;
AND THAT his expenses in connection therewith be paid by the City
of Port Coquitlam, City of Port Moody, and District of Coquitlam on the i
established cost~sharing formula. Carried.
Prior to passage of the foregoing resolution, Alderman Thompson
| suggested that a member of the Council's Environmental Protection Committee
| also attend the Symposium as the issue of mosquito control is political ; ;
as well as being clinical. Alderman Keryluk stated he agreed with the }
suggestion made by Alderman Thompson; however, if this is not feasible,
the Vector Control Officer should be requested to submit as complete a
report as possible on his attendance at the Symposium. Alderman Laking
suggested that the City Clerk endeavour to establish whether the conference
_ is going to include anyone in a political position and Mayor Campbell
advised he would attend to this matter himself tomorrow.

granted earlier this evening, and stated his view that possibly a motion mo
should be brought ‘in to abandon the By-law because some Aldermen are

prone to discriminate between one developer and another; however, Mayor

Campbell, in reiterating his stand for burning, referred to his previous iam

remarks on the provision in the By-law that all applications must be
submitted to Council, and he stated he did not like to see politics

enter into the issuance of burning permits. Alderman Laking stated he

would not have voted for the By-law without that provision being included

as there are times burning should be controlled. Alderman Thompson i !

stated he would discriminate against those who have a record of being

unsuccessful in their burning operations.
