THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM COUNCIL JAN 18 1993 Mr. B.R. Kirk DATE: January 7, 1993 City Administrator File: Sign Bylaw Carlos Felip Director of Planning Amendments to "Sign Bylaw, 1992, No. 2638" Planning and Development Committee ~ January 12, 1993 RECOMMENDATION: THAT the Municipal Clerk be instructed to prepare a Bylaw to amend the “Sign Bylaw, 1992, No. 2638", as outlined in Appendix I. BACKGROUND: A new Sign Bylaw was adopted by City Council on April 13, 1992. In admin: stering this Bylaw, Staff have identified two additional types of signs that should be regulated but do not adequately fit into the categories being used. These signs include: i. Subdivision Entry Signs that are permanently fixed to the ground and Placed at the main entrances to new subdivisions for identification; and Development signs that are placed by the developer on sites under construction to advertise the new project. PROPOSED AMENDMENTS : A. Subdivision Entry Signs Many of the regulations for freestanding signs are not applicable to subdivision entry signs. There are also some specific conditions that the City may wish to impose on entry signs. Therefore, it is recommended that a new Section 4.11 be created specifically to regulate the location and appearance of subdivision entry signs. The new guidelines include provisions that allow more than one sign to face a street, lower height restrictions than those presently used for freestanding signs, and requirements for a landscaped area around the sign and use of natural materials that are complementary to surroundings. woe 2/
