SUBJECT: Wheelchair Letdown at 2973 Coast Meridian Road
(Public Works Committee Meeting March 22, 1988)

Recommendation:

That a wheelchair ramp be installed at the end of the
Sidewalk in front of 2973 Coast Meridian Road at an estimated
cost of $250 and that the associated costs be funded from the
1988 Public Works Capital Budget.

Backaround and Comments:

The attached letter from the B.C. Coalition of the
Disabled dated February 26, 1988 was considered by the Public
Works Committee. The existing field conditions render the
suggested options of either extending the sidewalk to the south
or straightening the asphalt curb parallel with the sidewalk to
be not feasible at this time. In both these cases fill would
have to be deposited along the boulevard to such a height tha
the slope embankment will encroach upon private property

located at 2959 Coast Meridian.

The Committee did support the request to install a
wheelchair ramp near the end of the sidewalk in front of 2973
Coast Meridian however. The estimated cost for this work is
$250. The Committee considered this to be another 1988 Public
Works Capital Project.
