In conclusion, there appears to be some justification for not
extending the 6 month trial period for lengthened zones on Shaughnessy at
McAllister, If this is the recommendation of the Public Works Committee,
then we would be prepared to comply, On the subject of the Rec. Centre,
however, I feel that the hazardous situation’to which you refer has not
been demonstrated to the extent that would warrant the definite reduction
in quality of transit. service to the Rec, Centre patrons which removing
the buses from the loop would produce. 1 would certainly be in favour
of monitoring the situation closely and cooperating with you in any further
‘studies or action you feel may be warranted in order to ensure the safety
of drivers and pedestrians in the loop. If 1.2cessary, we would then
consider re-routing the Barnet and Dewdney buses as indicated by Ray
Schnell at your last meeting if and when we are satisfied that such can
be accomplished at a minimum level of service detriment to the public.
