Present were: ; Mayor Campbell Alderman P.Ranger Alderman M. Thompson G. Forcier, Treasurer L.D. Pollock, City Administrator 1. Revisions to Business Licence By-law Late last year a draft of some changes to the Business Licence By-law was dietributed to members of Council. This draft incorporated a 10% increase in Business Licences for 1976 along with some category changes that would have increased certain licences by more than 102. i The Finance Committee has further reviewed this and feel that increases should be kept to a 10% across the board maximum and therefore the By-law has been re~drafted to simply add 10% across the board to all of the existing licence categories. A copy of the Schedule that would be included in such a By-law amendment is attached and if Council agrees with this recommendation an amendment By-law will be presented to Council for adoption next week. 2. Water Rate Increases The Committee reviewed the Budget of Revenue Expenditure for the Water Works System and recommend that water rates be increased by 25¢ per month for 1976. The Sewer Operating Budget appears to be satisfactory and the Committee does not recommend any revision in sewer rates for the year. ; If Council agrees with the 25¢ per month rate increase for water, a By-law ‘ will be prepared for consideration by Council at the mext meeting. 3. Waiver of Sewer Charges i . The City has a By~law providing for a waiver of a portion of the sewer charges 5 for Senior Citizens. The rebate was based on an amomt equivalent te the increase in rates over rates charged in the base year 1973. ‘The rebate amounted to $9.00 in 1974 and $14.25 in 1975. The Committee recommends that this be increased for 1976 by 25¢ per month or $3.00 for the year. 4. Policing Costs Attached is a copy of a letter from Division Headquarters advising of estimated — policing costs for 1976-77. The cost calculation is based on charging the municipality 50% of the cost of the first 5 men and 75% of the cost of additional men. Council may recall that in December we received a circular from the U.B.C.M. Office advising that the R.C.M.P. intended to increase this percentage cver the eaalee robe tetens tl rswtenas
