It’s a full length production, running an hour and 40 minutes with. one intermission, and a 2 Terrace Review — Wednesday, May 24, 1989 Theatre. technical: monster: for cast-and: crew with 28 scenes demanding drill-team. coordination and lightning costume changes. Months of rehearsal obviously paid.off in this department. In the ‘Saturday night per- formance the pacing seemed to | “stagger a bit in the opening two or three scenes, but the acting.in the balance. of the play was tight * and intense. The central charac- ‘ ter is Christy, a girl in-her early teens anda member of the standard © four-piece nuclear family.. Her fall from. relative _ innocence begins with a date involving a youth who, as it. turns’ out, is the son of an alcoholic mother in the final ~ stages of deterioration. He’s in the habit of carrying a mickey around in his gym bag,” -and Christy soon develops a taste. for ‘intoxication... but something strange happens. While her friends get loaded and party on weekends, Christy eventually finds herself with a_ daily cravjng. Near the end she’s keeping booze in her school. locker for lunchtime snorts. “New RV camp planned “There may soon be a new 14-site recreational ' vehicle campsite in what Kitimat- Stikine Regional District direc- -tor. Pete Weeber calls, ‘‘prob- _ably one of the. most spectacular ‘spots. in B.C. 3°, The site is ‘owned by Cliff. and Fern Good- will, and located on -Hwy.. 16 ; about four miles west of the Kit- Wanga junction. The regional district has given the proposal their approval, and now a nod » ‘from . the Agricultural Land -- Commission is all that’s Te- ‘quired. - The Goodwills presently run an agricultural greenhouse oper- ation on the property. Their proposal would set aside two acres of pine thicket located on benchland beside the Skeena River. According to the appli- cants, the revenue from the campsite would help subsidize their greenhouse operation. And it looks like they have a _good chance of having their proposal approved. The only condition placed on it by the regional district is that public access to fishing not be blocked, and the District Agriculturist says that because there will be no impact on the greenhouse operation or an adjacent wheat field, he has. no objections either. from the beginning of the‘ pro- ject that preaching and prosely- tizing on the-stage would bea — waste of time with a. ‘teenage | audience. The numerous party scenes were particularly ef- fective, but as one teen acquain- tance put it, those didn’t de- mand a lot of acting due to the probable experience in that area of many of the cast members. — After the conclusion actors and crew, along with director Koven and alcohol and drug ‘ counsellor Carole Harvie, re- turned to the stage for a ques- tion-and-answer session with the audience, : When someone asked whether the project had prompted the students to analyze their atti-- tudes toward drinking, one of the lead role actors replied. after a pause, “Analyze, yes.”’ The “MINISTRY OF TRANSPORTATION AND HIGHWAYS Skeena Highways District ~* Honourable Nell Vant, Minister .
