Ne rae THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER ist Issue TWO-YEAR CONTRACT 1-217 SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH STOLBERG COMPANY Syd Thompson, President of Local 1-217, reports that agreement has been reached with Stolberg Construction, Industrial Mill Services and B.C. Sawmill Construction on the following terms of settle- ments for a two-year agree- ment regarding travelling millwrights. Construction Rates and Allowances Section 1—Definition (a) New construction is de- fined as follows: (i) Construction of new mills and/or complete new buildings. (ii) Construction in exist- ing operations when orders for such work are placed with the above firms by the mill operators and does not consti- tute overload as referred to in paragraph (b). (b) Standard IWA Master Agreement millwright rates will be paid when millwrights employed by the above noted firms are engaged on a “casu- al” or “overload” basis supple- menting the operator’s regular mill construction and/or main- tenance crews. Section 2—Wage Rates On jobs situated beyond five (5) road miles from such cen- tres, the employee will receive 10 cents per mile each way for distances beyond the said five (5) mile point as a daily travel allowance. SYD THOMPSON On jobs situated beyond 25 road miles from such centre employees will be paid at a rate of 20 cents per mile for all mileage beyond the twenty- five (25) mile point. Employees assigned to work on out-of-town jobs shall re- ceive at the cost of the em- ployer first class transporta- tion, including meals and sleeper for night travel,- from the transportation termi- nal nearest his home or place of domicile. The employee shall receive travelling time up to a maxi- mum of eight (8) hours in any 24-hour period. When an employee quits within fifteen (15) calendar days on the job, the company may deduct from the wages of the said employee the cost of meals, transportation and travelling time. The Company shall pay to each employee engaged in overload work as referred to in Section 1(b) the sum of 40c for each working day as a transportation allowance to employees working in the said area. Section 5—Effective Date Travel, transportation and room and board allowances hereinbefore provided shall become effective on the 1st tis, LOCAL 1-363 ELECTS | DELEGATES A general membership meeting of local 1-363 held in Courtenay last August 7 heard reports by Local Union President Max Salter and Fi- nancial Secretary Karl Lid- berg on: (a) settlement of the recent marshalling dispute at MacMillan’s Menzies Bay Logging division, (b) extension of seniority for employees of the Menzies Bay division to include Memekay and Iron River, (c) a new principle of mar- shalling points for “com- muting” loggers. The meeting elected the fol- lowing four delegates to the Lidberg, R. Williams, — E. Thompson and W. Armstrong. ' W. Tinkham was elected as alternate delegate.
