It is likely that the next big
battle the Canadian people
will. have to wage for their
independence will be to pre-

vent the sell-out of British
Columbia hydro _ resources
to the U.S.

In preparing for this battle
Canadians will have: to re-
member the’ lesson of the St.
Lawrence and Trans-Canada
pipeline deals: That only a
powerful united movement of
all sections of the population
can stop the federal govern-
ment from again betraying
Canada to the USS.

This battle for Canada
should be taken up now. Ot-
tawa should be flooded with
demands that there be no
giveaway of B.C. hydro re-
sources to the U.S.

The federal government, in
cooperation with the B.C.
government, should be urged
to develop our hydro resources
for Canadian use. Both gov-
ernments should jointly un-
dertake to build the Mica Dam
under public ownership
through the B.C. Power Com-
mission or a similar joint body.

Adequate funds should be
made available immediately
to ensure solution of the sal-
mon problem on the Fraser.

Secrecy surrounding - the
present talks should be end-
ed and the public informed of
what. proposals are being dis-
cussed. The people have a
right to know what is taking
place when their own. vital
interests and that of future
generations are at stake.

“Toot-toot!” answered the
hind push. We picked up
speed and roared west, but

After a few miles: our com-
fortable flatcar was sidetrack-
ed and as*no empties were
available we beld down an
oilear, one arm hooked through

after mile. Half asleep, our
knees would buckle, threaten-
ing to tumble us beneath the
wheels, and we would awaken
with a start and tighten our
grip for a few minutes.

Came the dawn. About 30
of us were riding the train.
At Penticton we stopped a
half hour and warmed up
around a feeble fire. At Brook-
meer we repeated the perfor-
mance, and at. Hope, where we
joined the main line, we built
a good fire and brewed java.
We had now been travelling
