OLD MET NEW at the Ter- race Speedway over the Riverboat Days weekend as the track celebrated it’s 30th anniversary. The weekend included regular races, plus some special events to celebrate the track’s three decades of racing excitement. Many of the original members dating back to 1967 came out to the track to meet old friends, reminisce and try their skills al racing again, "A lot of the old timers hadn't seen each other in years and it was great to see these people together again,” says Dawn Patter- son of the speedway. Saturday’s Old Timers race had to be held over un- til Sunday because of rain. But that was alright since it gave everyone more time for talking about old times and paying tribute to those who helped the track in it’s beginnings, The original members made presentations to recognize the work of those like Frank Halvorson, Gary Reum, Vic Froese, Lloyd Scott and Rene Fagan for their dedication. These. people, along with others like Phill Bourelie, Wally Humphrey, Bill Kluss, Floyd Asionson and iz THE SPEEDWAY has seen some pretty fast action over the past’30 years. On Sunday, the racers were back on the track: for regular racing, the special 50-lap Memorial Race and the Old Timer’s Races. The Memorial Race was won by John Cloakey inthe Hobby Stock and Fraser Sutherland in Street Stack. Finally, the Old Timers, or the Originals as they like to be called, buckled up and hit the pavement. _ For many it was the first . time in years they’d sat in a race car,’’ Patterson says. ‘But it was just like riding a bicycle for these guys, who had no trouble tearing up the wack. Russ (Show- boat) Shauer picked up the win in the A Hobby event, with Steve Butler taking the B Hobby Stock. Blake Cyr, Kenzie Kellar, Sonny Bienvenu, Charlie Bryd, Don Legros, Ken (Puffy) Fraser, Guy Brulotte and Larry (Coup) Conpal also raced in the A Hobby event. MANY OF the Originals returned to the track during Riverboat Days for a reunion. The B event was won by #351 Rick Meyer and #77 Rick Tisdale, and both C events were won by #919 Vicki Johnson, Sunday saw #76 John Cloakey win Heat and Main in the A Hobby Stock, while #114 Tim Fleming and #51 Wayne Osbome took the B August 17 Time Trials - ipm Hobby Stock events, . In the A Street Stock, Racing - 2pm #406 Claus Wolnowski won the Heat, with #351 Len Hey Kids!
