TERRACE — British Columbia needs the forest industry, but at the same time the industry should be operated to ensure a continuous supply of wood pro- — ducts — that is the philosophy of Canadian. Women in Timber (CWT), says the local branch chairman. “(Maybe the forest industry — (in the past) hasn’t done such a great job," Diana Wood con- cedes, ‘“‘but.we do need it and we need the products it pro- vides.”’ Noting even people who don't work in the industry benefit from ihe money _ it generates and the many services that money pays for, she adds, ‘We'd like to point that out.’” Formed in fate June of this year, the Terrace branch is the eleventh to. be formed in the province since CWT’s inception last year. Although not con- nected to American Women in Timber, it has taken its lead from that group, formed 10 Diana Wood Wednesday, Nov. 7 in Room 2002 (cafeteria building) at Nor- thwest Community College, : Anyone wanting more informa- tion on CWT can phone Wood Associatian canadienne, "dd diabite |. However, although all but two of the local group’s current membership of 15 have a direct or indirect connection to forestry — ‘It’s hard for anybody here not to be somehow related to it?” — ~ Wood emphasizes that is not a qualification for membership. Rather, the group wants to attract more members who have an interest in forestry but are not connected to-the industry “because it gives a different - perspective and we need to get that.”’. And, she adds, despite the name, membership is not restricted to women. Wood says the group is, for the time being, concentrating on. GREAT SAVINGS .
