10° THE WESTERN CANADIAN LUMBER WORKER IWA The 19th Annual Christmas party for children of Local 1-217 members was even bigger and better than previous ones. Over eight thousand children and parents jammed the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in three sessions December 19, to enjoy the fine entertainment provided. The purchase of over 6,000 gifts, together with publicity ~~ and mailing of invitations to the 7,000 members of Local 1-217 IWA, were only some of the preliminary prepara- tions. The distribution of these gifts was arranged by the Union’s Social Committee and Ladies’ Auxiliary who were helped by IWA members who acted as ushers to ensure each child received a present at the end of each performance. = HAPPY CHILDREN receiving presents from Santa at Local 1-217’s Annual Xmas Party. ~ » PART of the huge crowd that jammed the Queen Elizabeth Theatre during the three sessions. “| GAINED 33 Ibs. in 1 MONTH AT THE Western Gym” —Lenny Bogart @® REDUCING @ WRESTLING @ SAUNA @ BODY BUILDING Vancouver's oldest es- tablished men’s gym with Vancouver's Low- est Rates. A program of live entertain- ment including Santa Claus’ attendance was presented at each show. Local 1-217 Financial Sec- retary, Doug Evans, who is given credit for organizing this annual affair was quick to add the names of Executive officer, Hector Poirier, Social Committee Chairman and Sec- retary Marg Eaves and Joyce Foltz and many others to those deserving credit for the Xmas party’s success. The party’s overall cost of approximately $10,000 was protested by some members as being extravagant but the popularity of the event is such that the Vancouver IWA has given no thoughts to its dis- bandment. Woodworkers’ children are credited with being a great aid to Bob Hutton, local radio station personality, who acted as Master of Ceremony. Their singing and other antics be- fore and after each of the per- formances helped entertain patient IWA families waiting . for the disbursement of gifts.
