£ Terrace Review — Wednesday, November'8, 1989 _ "ExTerrace artist tums | to writing for children rom her home high on a chtf ‘overlooking a secluded cove in “West Vancouver, artist Anne _. Marie Nehring has a breath- taking view across the harbor to Point Grey. by Nancy Orr The view is a new inspiration to this artist from Cedarvale who has spent so much of her time working and painting in northern and central British Col- umbia, where her work is greatly sought-after. This new phase of her life has brought new in-~ terests and changes in her tech- niques and interests. “JT am moving into water col- ors instead of oils,’’ said Anne Marie. ‘“‘The technique is quite different. You really have to know where you are going, you can’t change brush strokes in the way you do with oils. “One day I found myself get- ting frustrated and depressed,” she said, ‘‘trying to get the effect that I wanted in somber trees and totems. Fo change the mood, I tried these turkeys from the farm west of Terrace and really enjoyed painting them.” The birds are also part of an- other new interest that is ab- sorbing Nehring’s time — the creation of a children’s book, written and illustrated by herself. It is called Magic Bear. ~ As she spoke, she lovingly dis- played'the first draft of the first - chapter. The text is complete and she is working on the il- lustrations, with plans for about 27 pictures which she is pain- stakingly producing. On the walls of her studio Recycling: ‘It won't happen overnight’ TERRACE — Following a review of a brief presented to council by the Recycling Com- mittee of the Skeena Protection Coalition, the city council’s Public Works Committee has asked administration to explore all funding possibilities per- taining to waste disposal — in- cluding recycling. Administra- ‘tion will provide this informa- tion to the council committee, who are seeking an overall waste management strategy for Ter- “Tace. ~The city supports the idea of exploring the feasibility of re- cycling and has assisted in private recycling initiatives in .. the past, most recently by per- - mitting North Coast Metal Re- _ eycling to use city-owned land “fora private endeavor.
