Notice to B.C. Telephone
Company Subscribers

In March of this year, a notice was mailed to you
summarizing the details of an application filed by
B.C. Tal with the Canadian Radio-television and
Telecommunications Commission for a general
increase in rates to become effcctive, in part, on
June 1, and in full on December 17, 1980, Addi-
tional copies of that notice are available on request
from your local Customer Service Office or Phone
Mart,

On May 23, 1980, the Commission issucd Tele-
com Decision CRTC 80-9 denying the Company's
application for the interim increase proposed for
June 1, 1980. However, the application for rate
increases proposed to be effective December 17,
1980, remains unchanged.

Where the Application May Be Seen

Copies of Part A of the application consisting of the
Request for Increase in Rates are available for
public inspection during normal business hours at
every B.C. Tel Business Office and at tho offices of
the CRTC, # 1130 - 701 West Georgia Street, Van-
couver, B.C, and Les Terrasses de la Chaudiére, 1
Promenade du Ponaga, Mull, Quebec, Part B of
the application, consisting of Memoranda of Sup-
port updated as of dune 20, 1980, and the Com-
pany’s roplies to the initial set of Commission inter-
rogatories are also available for inspection at the
CRTC and the following 8,C, Teteptions Company
Business Offices: 826 Yates Street, Victoria. B.C.,
3777 Kingsway, Burnaby, 8.C., and #607 Fuller
Building, 75 Albert Street, Ottawa, Ontario and will

be sent to anyone filing a notice of intention to

Participate at the cantral hearing.

Do You Wish to Comment on the Application?

You may oxpress your comments in one of three
ways:

1) BY SENDING A LETTER TO THE
COMMISSION

if you have a comment or matter that you {cel the
Commission should take into account in reviewing
the application, including such matters as quality
of service, availability of service, billing practicos,
or any other mattor relating to the Company's op-
erations, you can write directly to iho Commission,

should include any relovant information that may

2) BY APPEARING AT A REGIONAL HEARING

The Commission will be holding regional hearings,

which will take the form of public meetings nor-
malty held in the evening in a number of different
communities within B.C. Tel's service aroa during
the period from October 1, 1980 to October 8,
1980. The locations will be selected depending on
the response to this notice; these locations and the
precise times of the meetings will be announced
later. If you would like an opportunity to appear at
one of these hearings, at which you may expand
on your ictter or make further submissions, you
should follow the procedure described above for
sending comments to the Commission, making
sure to include a staternent of your desire to par-
ticipate at a regional hearing.

3) BY APPEARING AT THE CENTRAL
HEARING

In addition to the regional hearings the Cormmis-

sion will be conducting a more formal central
hearing that is tontatively scheduled to take place
at the Sheraton Landmark Hotel, 1400 Robson
Street, Vancouver, British Columbia, commoncing
Septomber 30, 1960 at 9:30 aun. provided the
application file has been completed to the satis.

present on a daily basis, involves presentation of
evidence by bath the applicant and interveners,
often through expert witnessas, and includes

interrogatories to the Company, with 2 copy to the
Commission, is also August 5, 1980.
