CONCLUSION: That we not sit smuggly on our laurels assuming that everything is O.K. in our community when in fact it is not. We need to take an even greater interest in our fire service and those who serve the community in that area. "As a traditional saying has it: fires have 4 causes, men, women, children, and God. Yet comparatively few persons really take fire danger seriously. British Columbians would be wise to adopt some of the philosophy of the Japanese towards fires. Today, in that country, a fire is deemed a personal disgrace to the individual who allows it to occur. At one time it was considered to be such a serious crime that it was punished by crucifixions and more recently suicide has been not uncommon in cases of flagrant default. Without going quite that far, we in British Columbia should take the matter much more seriously than we now do.
