A new band council was elected before that took place and negotiations with the highways ministry began : again. In a press release, Gitsegukla chief Ken Russell said the agree- ment in principle was. not everything the band wanted nor what the highways ministry en- visioned. ' “But it (the agreement in principle) represents in the band’s view, a fair deal to both parties,'’ he said. The negotiations centred on what the band was calling ‘“‘yalue for value’? for the ap-. proximately 44 acres now taken up by the new highway section.
