Contributed by the Garbathon committee It’s time to clean up Terrace! With that theme in mind, a ‘cleanup committee’, under the auspices of the Terrace Beautification Society, has been -struck and is now in the process of developing this year’s Cleanup Campaign. The 1990 project will begin May 13 with the annual Garba- thon. Terrace residents are in- vited to take part in the after- noon activity from 1 to 2 p.m. starting at McDonald’s. The cleanup committee is encourag- ing participation from all sectors of the community. The concept sees the development of teams which hit city streets picking up litter. The goal for each team is to pick up the most garbage. The committee, with the assistance of the Terrace Chamber of Commerce, will make a special effort to recruit local business teams. Various prizes will be awarded at the end of the hour- long event and free litter bags will be provided. For the second: time, this year’s Cleanup Project will be held in conjunction with the “Pitch-in 90’ provincial cam- paign May 7 to 13. Every year at this time we are all concerned with the amount of litter on city and area streets. This campaign gives each of us the opportunity to pitch in and make Terrace as beautiful as it should be. _ For more information, con- tact Karen Focker (638-8895, 635-4908) or Eric Johanson (635-7239, 635-7206). Carnation Campaign | Contributed by Doug MacKay Multiple Sclerosis. This disease of the central nervous system strikes more young Canadian adults than any other neurological disease. An estimated 50,000 Canadians must cope with the effects of Multiple Sclerosis every day of their lives. Canadians are especially sus- ceptible to developing Multiple - Sclerosis because of where we live and where we come from: the disease is more common in temperate climates, less com- mon the closer one lives to the equator. The disease also occurs more often among people of northern European back- grounds, those who make up a’ large part of Canada’ s popula- tion. Multiple Sclerosis is very much a Canadian disease, and Canadians are in the forefront of trying to rid the world of it. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada funds over $2 million of medical research each year. We can help too by donating money and time to this year’s MS Carnation Campaign. We can do our part in our communi- ty today. .
