Tickets are available from Er- win’s Jewellers in the Skeena Mall or at the door, Time for books Outdoors, indoors by Andrea Deakin ’ One thing can be assured about fly fishing: its unpredictability, It presents the art of fishing at its best. It relies on skill, patience and the smile of fortune, and withall it presents a most romantic picture to the observer. One of the arts of fly fishing lies in the design and tying of the fly. It is this aspect which is the subject of a new book by Judith Dunham, ‘'The Art of the Trout Fly’’, published by Raincoast Books at $22.95. Famous flytyers from around the world exhibit their fly designs, meticulously reconstructed, jewel-like ‘‘insects”’ to deceive unwary fish. Darrel Martin, Bill Blackstone, Rene and Bonnie Harrop, Nori and Tada Tashiro and others show their skill, describe their ideas and share their stories. The photography by Egmont Van Dyck | is superb. - Also from Raincoast is ‘Moose’, a photographic study of moose by award-winning Japanese photographer Michio - Hoshino. An introduction by Athapskan Indian Catherine Attla expresses the importance of the moose to her people’s tradition, and Hoshino’s text enlarges upon this. However, it is truly outstanding photography of this magnificent land and the in- timate and yet powerful photographs of the moose themselves which make this such a compelling and exciting study. ‘‘Moose’’ by Michio Hoshino is published by Raincoast Books at $14.95.. We have all at some time, I am sure, massaged and stroked a small child, rubbing in the baby oil, soothing and consoling not only with words and tone of voice but also with gentle rubbing, massaging them into comfort and relaxation. We have all, too, rubbed sore muscles for those who have strained a back or shoulder. Clare Maxwell-Hudson is an acknowledged expert in the field of massage and her book, ‘‘The Complete Book of Massage”’ is a lucid and comprehensive guide to massage. Clear step-by-step instructions accompanied by excellent explanatory photographs show exactly how and where to apply massage for “The Complete Book of Massage”’ i is published by Macmillan of Canada at $17.95. Two out of every three households in Canada now own a microwave; Canadian Living has put together over 175 easy-to- prepare recipes for all brands of microwave in their new “‘Cana- dian Living Microwave Cookbook”’ (Random House:$24.95). The recipes include new ways with old favorites like shepherd’s pie and macaroni and cheese, and it suggests new favorites, lettuce-wrapped fish for example, Since baked potatoes are so good done in the microwave there are suggestions for variations, a wide range of desserts and even fudge and almond brittle. As with all Canadian Living publications, there are some mouth- watering photographs (why does mine never look quite like that?) and the text is clearly set out. My one quarrel is with the binding which, at least in my copy, does not lie quite.as flat as a busy cook would like. Oh, and do try the fish with ginered pineapple. Terrace Review — Wednesday, November 23, 1988 15 Mental health eyes rugby clubhouse The Terrace Northmen Rugby Club’s bid on Mills Memorial Hospital’s disused nurses’ residence has been put on hold and the building may not be moved or destroyed after all. ’ The building was originally put up for bids last spring when the hospital decided it was no longer required and should: be either moved or destroyed. According to hospital ad- ministrator Norm Carelius, there were not many offers for the building at that time and $500 bid from the rugby club was accepted. Since that time however, says Carelius, there have been several new and in- teresting proposals that need to be considered. One, he says, comes from Mental Health and suggests that the building could be used for other health related purposes similar to those offered at the Osborne Guest Home. - Carelius says that if there is a need for some form of health care which could be operated out of the building it would be a far better option than having it removed. He explains that the building could cost anywhere be- tween $100,000 and $200,000 to replace, but estimates to repair the building are only in the $20,000 to $25,000 range. The Terrace Northmen Rugby Club approached city council last spring with a proposal to relocate the residence to Christy. Park or some other location in the city as a club house, This change in health care priorities, however, may have them look- ing for another home. - are in, and for tsup with B.C’s economy.
