Technically, it’s possible, but the
probability of Geddes Resources
Windy Craggy Copper Mine pro-

ceeding will lic with the hearts and "

minds of politicians. The proposed
open-pit copper project in the St.
Elias Mountains in the far north-
west comer of B.C. has been the
subject of public concern for the
wilderness area and its impact on
adventure tourism. Three consul-

tants were in Smithers in Novem- ;

ber to explain geotechnical, geo-
chemical and glacial hydrology
problems and solutions surround-
ing the proposal. Their bottom line
is that there are no insurmountable
technical problems for the develop-
ment. The proposed mine would
employ about 600 people for a
period of up to 50 years. Geddes
Resources is submitting a Stage II
proposal for the project to the
provincial government sometime
this year.

Teeshin Resources has entered
into a joint-venture partnership
with Timmins Nickel Inc. The deal:

involves the Dome Mountain gold

mine located about 40 kilometres
east of Smithers and will see the
establishment of a production rate
of 250 tons per day. Plans
announced call for action starting

in spring 1991, but all the permit-

ting is not yet in place. The oper-
ation has passed Stage II approval,
but Stage ILI, final permitting, has

not yet occurred. No estimates of .
‘employment have been given.

Noranda Mines Board of Direc-
tors may be in a position to make
a decision on extending the minc-
life at the Bell Mine in Granisie by
mid-1991. Presently, the mine is
scheduled for shutdown in 1992,
but exploration has uncovered an

additional larger-than-expected ore |

body adjacent to the present site
on Babine Lake. The ore grades
are somewhat lower than the pres-
ent reserves. A decision on a full
feasibility study for mine extension

should have been made by the _

people.
