The School, the brainchild of well- known local sportscaster Len ‘ Harrington, came to light ve@arlier year through a ‘presentation to the Terrace ‘Recreation and Civic . Properties Commission and : then again at Monday night’s direction of Harrington, willrun this year from August 26-30 and feature (hree sports, basketball in the morning hours and, volleyball and soccer in the afternoons. Each student would participate in the’ basketball section of the camp and then choose from one of the other between the ages of 10 and 18 years and a proposed fee for the one week camp is a mere $10. The basketball will be broken down into high school basket- ball and mini-basketball sec- tions so thal each all could draw the maximum benefit from the : imeeting. ‘students from Kitimal and Terrace Elementary Schools. The ten dollar fee has beenset -on June. 15 in Kitimat. ‘There will be-formal. competition in compulsory exercises throughout the day at Kitimat’s YMCS YMCA, beginning about 9:30 a.m. The competition is for girls under 14 years of age. The North West Auto Racers were forced’ to cancel the full card of racing, plus some auxiliary events, shortly before the meet wa: scheduled to slart. : Instead there will be racing next weekend, Sunday, weather permitting, All classes'of cars - super stocks, straight stocks and minis - will be out as and as well there will be two events of special interest. . Following the time trials al 1 pm. and just before racing starts around 2 p.m. the North West Auto Racers will take a few minutes out to crown Miss Speedway for the cuming year. The, during the intermission. there will be ten speed bicycle races on the track. The races will comprise five laps of the paved oval. Summer Sports School. for Terrace The School, Vocational School for an ad- ‘ditional $27.50 for the week. That cost would include meals and transportation. Registration for the school will handled by the Terrace Department of Parks and Recreation who will da the clerical work for the registration and then turn everything over to Harrington. Instructors for the sports would be drawn from the local scene, with several -interested com- munity persons already | in- dicating a willingness to par- ticipate for little or no financial return. In the future the School would be enlarged as the need arose and the .mumber of sports, . particularly individual or -life- time sports, such as archery, sailing, canoeing, golf , lennis, badminton and the such will be added. ae .
