THE CORPORATION OF THL" CITY OF POPT COQUITLAM PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE meeting of the parks S Recreation Committee was in the port Coquitlam Recreation Office on March 28th, 1984, atheld 4:00 p.m. In attendance were Alderman Keryluk, Alderman Stewart and Alderman Farnworth. Also in attendance were K. Janna Taylor, Parks & Recreation Director and Judy Vahle from the PoCo B.M.X. Association. A CONFIRMATION OF MINUTES That the minutes of the meeting of the Parks s Recreation Wednesday, l!arch 21st, 1984, be taken as read and adopted. held on Item No. 1 PoCo BMX Track Judy Vahle from PoCo B.M.X. addressed the Committee in regard to the vandalism that has taken place in the last few weeks at their track. The concession shack was vandalised as well as other buildings. The Committee indicated that they would look into the cost of installing a light at the site which may help to alleviate the problem of the present vandalism. Recommended: That a price be estimated on the installation of a light at the PoCo B.M.X. Track for recommendation to Council. CARRIED Item No. 2 Spraying Janna Taylor indicated that it was necessary to spray Cygon on the trees in front of City Eall due to the fact that there were bugs that were taking over the trees. Sheila Darr's indicates that in certain cases, spraying report may be required. Recommended: That Gygon be sprayed on the trees in front of City Hall and that this recommendation be taken to Council. CAPPIED NAR 28 Continued. Item No. 3 Non-Resident Athletes - P.C.A.A.A. Letter The attached letter from P .C.A.A.A. indicates that 480 athletes live outside the PoCo City Based on 480 athletes at $ 6 .00 representsboundary. $ 2,800.00. This in effect is an outright grant to these non- residents. These persons already utilize the fields free of charge and the ice at subsidized rates. The CommI ttee felt that it was not appropriate to give outright grants to non-residents. Recommended: That the City Council not pay the grant for nonresidents of Port Coquitlam and that this be taken to Council for ratification. CARRIED Item No. 4 hiay Day - Reception for the Choosing of the hiay Queen The Chamber of Commerce has indicated that they are not prepared to host the small reception for the princesses and the choosing of the Nay Queen on April 4th, 1984. The Committee indicated that they will be prepared to host the small reception for the choosing of the Queen. Recommended: That the City of Port Coauitlam host the reception for the princesses and the choosing of the and that the date be finalized by the staff.May Queen CARRIED ADJOURNhIENT: At 4:45 p.m. the meeting adjourned.
