Without these great partnerships we would not be able to continue to expand on the range of performances we now offer at The Chan. This season we are thrilled to offer, for the first time ever, concerts for children and their families. Music in the Morning and the Chan Centre present New York composer, conductor, and educator Rob Kapilow, who will bring his unparalleled energy for music to our stage with two of his legendary Family Musik Programs: Green Eggs and Hamadeus and Peter and the Wolf. We are also excited about our involvement in the commissioning of a new piece inspired by the sounds of the North which will be premiered in January by the Kronos Quartet and Canadian Inuit throat-singer Tanya Tagaq. Don't miss the inaugural performance of this unique piece! For our ninth season, we welcome back a number of the world-class performers who have graced our stage in past seasons. Among these greats are Portuguese QUARTETTO GELATO faofo superstar, Mariza; the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet; pianists Andras Schiff, Radu Lupu and Krystian Zimerman; the eclectic Quartetto Gelato; and the sonically unrivalled Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. Of course we are also delighted to welcome those performers who will visit The Chan for the first time this season, including Mexican cabaret diva-comedienne and performance artist Astrid Hadad; jazz vocalist Kurt Elling; collaborators Terry Riley and Michael McClure, and Live 8 performers the African Guitar Summit to name but a few. I hope you enjoy browsing through the concerts in this brochure and finding events that appeal to you on many levels - whether it's sharing a Family Musik concert with your grandchildren, being enraptured by a sizzling recital by a famed pianist or exploring new landscapes of sound with a performer like Meredith Monk. I look forward to sharing these experiences with you as a member of the audience this season!
