RABBITS, HEDGEHOGS, HAMSTERS and other critters go haad to head in the Skeena Valley Kennel Club's pet show, one of the popular events at this weekend's Skeena Valley Fall Fair. Fair is the time for pets to shine Dogs, cats, rodents and ‘others’ get set to compete IF YOUR hamster wants to be a star, take him to the fair. The Skeena Valley Kennel Club is hosting its an- nual pet show on the fall fair weekend. Competitions include longest tail, shortest cars, best trick and the ever-popular best dressed compe- tion. Previous. years have seen some prelly snappy dressess, including a cowboy dog with a hamster in each holster. . _ “Basically it’s just a fun day for the kids,” says Cindy Blakeburn, of the Kennel Club. There are four categories at the show: dog, cat, rodent and others... Blakeburn says past years have seen some inter- esting others, including a fainting goat and a rooster that did tricks, *‘Hedgehops were kind of the rage starting last wwf There is no preregistration and anyone who shows : up with their pet can participate, says Blakeburn, as long as they are willing to pay a $1 entry fee each time they enter the ring for a new competition. All Furniture, 4% O ‘'There are no limits,’” she says. At the end of the show, the best cared for animals from each of the four categories compete for the show’s overall trophy for best-cared-for pet. The show will and will start Sunday, September 6 at 1 p.m. Last year judging took about one and a half hours but Blakebum says organizers are hoping things will go a little faster this year. Last year heat and lack of seating presented prob- Jems. The heat was particularly tough on the rodents, so they will be judged first this time. The Club is also hoping to get a second ring for this year’s show. Kf pets still have the energy after competing, their owners can test their agility on an obstacle course, The course will be brought to the fair by the Agility Club in Kitimat and is designed to put pets through their paces. The pet show will be held in the parking lot of the Thornhill community centre and the obstacle course will be set up across the street. , m Terrace Furniture Marts Gigantic Fall Sale!
