Highlights of the day were a celebrity goat milking and barrel racing contest. Representatives from dentistry, medi- cine, RCMP, CFTK and the business sector par- ticipated in the ‘‘celeb- rity’’ events. Throughout the week, the volunteers canvassed for donations to sponsor the celebrity events. Monies raised went to support the Terrace Child Development Cen- tre and the Thornhill Agricultural Grounds. Added to the enter- tainment of the goat - milking and barrel racing contests were the humorous costumes that the participants wore, Winners of the goat milking contest were as follows: In first place, . ‘Tom Hamakawa, prin- cipal of Thornhill Senior Secondary, who milked Shadow. Tied for second place was Harry. Red- mond, president of the Terrace Saddle Club, who was appropriately ‘dressed in cowboy attire, and Frank Bowsher, decked out in true ‘‘milk maiden” clothes. Third place was Bob Marcellin ‘from the Regional District. His goat was Legacy. _A special mention was given to the ‘‘mystery guest’’, who was later revealed to be Doug Smith of CFTK. He was not able to get a drop of milk from his goat. Winners from the bar- rel race were; in first place, Orlo Powell, rep- resenting the dental com- munity, second was Len Hanson from the Ter- race Fire Department and in third place was Constable Ewen Harvey from the Terrace RCMP. It was noted that this was Constable Harvey’s first ride on a horse. Dr. Peter Van Herk from the Emerson medical clinic attracted a great deal of attention by wearing a lab coat and surgical mask during the contest. Unfortunately, Dr. Van Herk was riding the largest horse and came in with the slowest time. We were trying to pro- mote the use of the Thornhill Community Grounds, and raise money to improve it, said Wyatt. When the idea was first presented there were lots of skep- tics, but judging from the overwhelming re- sponse, the Thornhill Fun Fair will probably become an annual event, said Wyatt.
