Will open September 1994 as planned. he

The province has not released committed funds for Riversprings Elementary
construction, therefore there will be two schools within the Viscount Elementary
site. Approximately 800 to 950 students or more will have no playground, no
ballfields, or no facilities for children to even exercise.

2) Citadel — .
n this year as planned - September 1994, However, it can only accommodate
English. French immersion children living within blocks of the school still have to

go to Mary Hill Junior Secondary.

SCHOOL CONSTRUCTION FACTS:

¢ Enrollment growth of 1,000 to 1,200 students per year.
© 152 portables currently in use accommodating 4,000 students.
Larger than 1/4 more students in portables than entire school districts.
More than 1/3 of the school districts in province.
Secondary School accommodation at critical stage.
Last Junior Secondary opened in 1978.
Last Senior Secondary opened in 1973
¢ Schools already operating on extended days.

SCHOOL FUNDING _

Province grants in 3 stages

1) Site acquisition monies
2) Planning monies
3) Construction monies

The province is reneging on releasing funds for Phase 3 Construction and in some cases
Phase 2. | ee |

The implication to children in Port Coquitlam is very serious as all school openings are
now delayed. As the attached graph shows, we already have a critical shortage which will
only increase with the influx of children moving up from elementary to secondary school. —
