J, Palmer, Vector Control Officer, Simon Fraser Health Unit, Our scientists have been aware of the problems of mosquito control for quite some time, However, in view of the rising number of complaints’ from various sectors of Canada, in view of the rising number of farm animals dying from what appears to be an outbreak of biting flies in many regions of Canada, the Research Branch of my Department called a Wational Work Planning Meeting on Biting Flies and Their Control, This meeting was held in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on October 3l, Noverbcr l and 2, and was attended by about fifty people representing federal and provincial governments as wel as scientists in CDA and universities interested in biting flies, The report of this meeting is in prepara- tion and shotld be available in the coming weeks,
