One of the saddest commentar-
ies on U.S. life, as revealed
through its crimes, is the large
proportion of crimes committed
by young people. Crimes by
those under 18 rose nine percent
in 1962. Youth accounted for 62
percent of auto thefts; 51 percent
of larcenies; 49 percent of burg-
laries; 29 percent of all robber-
ies.
