SUBJECT: Regional Cultural Centre Feasibility Report

Purpose/Problen:

The purpose of this report is to review the feasibility report
and identify recommendations that outline the direction the City
of Port Coquitlam should take with regards to effectively
developing the Arts in our community.

History/Background:

In March, 1985, the Coquitlam Area Fine Arts Couneil in
cooperation with the three municipalities (Port Moody, Coquitlan,
Pert Coquitlam) commissioned a feasibility report to be completed
regarding a Regional Cultural Centre. This study was undertaken
in recognition of the increasing needs of the cultural community
in the area. In theory, three study objectives were reviewed in
the feasiblity report:

1) Yo examine the current eultural Situation; .

2) To define the needs for cultural services and facilities, and
3) To address the requirements for the Proposed Cultural Centre.
The completed feasibility report has been submitted to the three
munieipalities for comment and approval.

Alternatives:

Basically, there are three alternatives available for
consideration:

®Adopt the recommendations included in the feasibility report, as

outlined.
#Adopt the recommendations indentified in the feasibility report,

but with some suggested changes.
Refuse to adopt any or all of the recommendations outlined in

the feasibility report.
