THE CORPORATION OF THE CiTY OF PORT COQUITLAM -2- It is our opinion that the arrangements for restoration of private driveways and property should he part of the responsi- bility of the dyking program. As there are additional properties other than Mr. Bain's which are affected, there could be considerable additional work required if the City decides to undertake the responsibilities which should be the dyking program's... However, I understand that Mr. Bain intends to speak to Council as a delegation at the September 30th, 1979 Council Meeting. ETEM II Re: B.C. Hydro Transit Service Mr. Vic Sharman of B.C. Hydro Transit had been invited to answer questions about the level of service in Port Coquitlam. A good discussion took place in which a number of questions were answered. Council had been concerned about a possible cutback in service on routes into Port Coquitlam. According to Mr. Sharman, there has been no cutback in service and in fact there has been some increase. Although some of the buses on some of the routes are running full, there is a difficulty in adding more buses to the fleet just to service this traffic. B.C. Hydro will be diverting four more buses to serve this area next month but that will not make a significant difference. - . The direct connection to Lougheed Mall during the peak hour which had been reimplemented as a result of Council's study last year was experiencing disappointing ridership. Mr. Sharman felt that this might increase with time as the bus had only been in operation since July 20th, 1979. With regard to the use of the Rec Centre Parking Lot for park and ride, it was felt that this may possibly have been the result of the opening of the Coquitlam Centre. It was felt that a number of the users of this lot may have been residents of Pitt Meadows or Maple Ridge who now have a more convenient place to park in the Coquitlam Centre lot. B.C. Hydro agreed to undertake a survey of the park and ride users to find out where they were coming from. Mr. Sharman, suggested that the City could encourage more transit usage by making a point of advertising the park and ride lot. However this might work against transit in the long run if enough people responded to overload the existing buses. Other general areas of transit such as special reserved lanes and articulated buses were also discussed. B.C. Hydro will be testing an articulated bus this fall on some of its routes but Gecisions as to ordering these buses would eventually be made by UTA rather than B.C. Hydro. . [300s
