In attendance were: Councillor M. Gates, Chairman Councillor R. Talbot, Co-Chaurnan J.B. Yip, P. Eug., Deputy Cits Engineer F. Cheung, P. Bng., Project Engineer C. Deakin, Engineering Secretary The minutes for the March 8, 1994 Conunittee meeting were considered, read and adopted. Carried ITEM L DELEGATION - IAN JENNINGS - BFI DONATION FOR EARTH DAY Mr. Ian Jennings explained that they would like to make an environmental contribution for the residents of Port Coquitlam to enjoy. Councillor Gates suggested that the residential area on Connaught backs onto an industrial area. Evergreen trees would be nice as a buffer. Mr. Jennings felt that it would be a good idea and suggested that if they had extra funds some park benches in Peace Park might be an idea. Deputy Engineer to get cost estimates for trees and benches and get back to Mr Jennings. Councillor Gates will also take the letter to his Parks and Recreation Conunittee to «e if they have any suggestions. ITEM IL SPEBDI-BIN COMPOSTER Committee reviewedl a report regarding the new "Speedibin" composter and asked that a letter be sent to Mr. Franci regarding his suggestion of education and public knowledge of the choices available to residents for composting and that the City may be purchasing one of his bins for the demonstration. stan a) Ch10r amino This item was deferred until Committee reviews the GVRD Water Report. Deputy Engineer to return letter thanking the "Concerned Citizens Against Chloramine" Committee for information and get more information on logging/silt levels near the Coquitlam Water Shed. Deputy Engineer explained that under Option C - "Full Protection" there would be no logging, mining etc. - "Industrial Extracting" would be permitted only under "Special Management Practices" in designated areas under Option A or B. Councillor Gates would like a "Lay Over" of where logging has taken place. c) RRL~lina News Release Corrunittee reviewed report indicating that the Hazardous Household Waste Depot in Surrey would be closing down at the end of March. Committee would like report on Council agenda as information so that public is informed to take paint now. d) A~vert ~nt 'Ever Wild" Magazine Committee felt that they had done enough advertising in the "Earthwise" magazine so turned down option to advertise in "Ever Wild". e) "Protecting the Environment" Conference CounciBor Gates asked that at least one member of the Committee attend.
