Indoor soccer aiming high IT’S JUST A dream right now, but if all goes as organizers are 7 planning, a a flourishing Terrace indgor soccer league could’ act- as ‘a Springboard for teams to represent (he city at the North- ern BC Winter Games. Lorenzo Campanelli is organizing the men’s indoor league. He says he hopes to get 72 players involved, creating six teams which would make for an exciting league. The season is slated to run a 16-game schedule, from mid- October until March — with a break for the Northern Games in February. The indoor season would fol- low on the heels of a successful men's outdoor season: But Campanelli says that getting the guys together in the winter can be more difficult, “In the winter, most guys play hockey,’” he says, ‘‘Lots of people don’t even know about indoor saccer.”* If the league gets . going, Campanelli says that either the team in. first place ‘at the time could represent the city at the Northern Games, or an Allstar team could be picked. A women’s indoor soccer league Is also underway, prac- ticing every Thursday at Verilas school. Like the men, the women are hoping to get a strong team together for the Games **We go out lo support them, too,”” Campanelli says. *'There’s a good sense of com- tadery between the groups.’” Campanelli says that, judging from the quality of players tight now, both groups should be able to put together decent teams for the Games. KEN’S MARINE 4946 Greig Ave, Terrace 635-2909 Qe YOU BE THE JUDGE “POST- CONCUSSIONAL” AUTOMATISM The guys pushed their way, laughing and jostling each other, through the door of the roadside inn. “C'mon, guys, let's get going.” said the barrel-chested 6-foot-4 leader. “The fun's aver.” As they stood by thelr motorcycles, zipping up thelr leather jackets and snapping oan their helmets, they saw their friend Zanuck stumble through the door. “Hey, Zanuck, can't hold your liquor? Maybe we should call for a taxi to take you home?” “Get off my back, guys, | can hold it as well as you can. | don’t need no taxi,” Zanuck zipped up his jacket looked at his helmet attached to his bike and lett it there. “It's just a shart rlde home.” Zanuck got on his motorcycla, and roared off down the highway. Just as he turned on to a gravel road at full speed, a truck loomed in front of him. Zanuck’s motorcycle slid into the truck and he hitthe dit. The truck driver called the pollce and in no time the polica car arrived, “This guy must have been drinking,” the truck driver pointed to Zanuck with disgust. "He turned right into me. I'm lucky the truck didn't go out of control.” The police leaned down over Zanuck. “No question, he smells af alcohol.” As Zanuck opened his eyes, the police read out the standard Charter warning. “You have the right to call a lawyer.” Zanuck closed his eyes. "Don't want no lawyer.” The police took him ta the station for by Claire Bernstein Based On Actual Court Coses breath samples. “Yep, just as | thought,” said the officer studying the lab results. fare alcohol level three times the legal limit.” Zanuck was charged with impalred driving. In court, he was spiffily dressed in a suit and starched white shirt, “Not gullty, your honour,” he pleaded. The police officers almost fall off their seats. “Your honor,” Richare argued, “I wasn't wearing a helmet. | hit my head. | was suffering from post-concussional auto- matism, as a result of hitting my head. | would not have understood the Charter warning. Because | could not under- stand the warning, the breath-test certifi- cates are inadmissible, There is no proof of drunk driving. Acquit me,” The prosecutor argued, “Your honour, the idea that Zanuck suffared from past- concussional autamatism is no excuse for drunk driving. If thera was post-con- cussional automatism, it resultad primar- ily trom alcohol consumption rather than a blow to the head. Zanuck was drunk when he was driving. Don’t let him get off free.” Is Zanuck guilty of driving while impaired? YOU! BE THE JUDGE. Then look below for the judgment.
