By that, I mean his impacts are no longer contained within petty nationalistic boundaries nor is what trinated to think by world governments any longer acceptable. Our enemies are ourselves, no-one else. We are taught that murder is wrong except when in the national in- terest, when each one of us may be called by our governments to become a murderer. This leads to an unacceptable situa- tion internationally, Kill- ing people doesn’t help them. We are taught that in the interests of national security, that it is essen- tial that we manufacture nuclear weapons, the support infrastructure of which now and for the next half million years, will threaten life on earth indoc- . “Terrace Review — Wednesday, May 21, 1986 5 | Time for a change Potter with disease and greatly increased mutation rates and annihilation via nuclear war. We tend to be taught that for the good of the economy, the environ- ment must be sacrificed. In the worship of that faith, we encourage over-grazing, turning laterite soils to concrete, killing lakes, farmlands and forests via acid rain and toxic rain and pollu- tion, and pass on the true costs to future genera- tions. We have internalized that poisoned environ- ment such that those poisons account, in my opinion, for 80 to 90 per- cent of all cancer deaths amongst humanity. We are told that that is the essential price of our technological lifestyle. Tell that to someone who Northern continued from page I autonomy.’’ With regard to a new federal program design- ed to aid municipalities in upgrading infrastruc- ture such as water and sewerage systems, Rit- chie stated that the B.C. government would not encourage increased federal contributions to revenue sharing and of- fered the rather curious rationale that such con- tributions would either increase the federal deficit or displace fund- ing from social pro- grams. The presentation came to an inconclusive end with the showing of a film produced by the provincial government on the subject of municipal planning. " Artifictal Teeth Alfixed Permanently Researchers at the UCLA School of Dentistry are using an effective technique invented bya Swedish scientist to permanently implant artificial teeth in per- sons who areunabdle to wear den- tures, The dental implant method, called osseointegration, allows people with special problems to regain the benefits of havingteeth. Osseointegration refers to the attachment of living bone to metal. The technique involves surgically implanting miniscule, pure litanium screws into the jawbone while the palient is under localanesthesia. Letter Only by a change of heart will peace be restored To the editor, The question is, ‘‘Are our Natives asking for apartheid in Canada and are they being conned by the communists?” @ The Blacks were not forced to relocate in homelands. @ The Blacks (except the Zulu’s who lived there) relocated themselves, migrating from more northern parts of South Africa in order to find employ- ment and a higher stan- dard of living. These Blacks, I believe, now have the highest stan- dard of living of any Black country in Africa. ® They are not denied work and they do not live in a desert. On TV one can see all the greenery around the houses. The media shows often only some slums, which are, in my opi- nion, created by the peo- ple themselves, not’ by the government. The Blacks are employed in mines and factories with wages higher than anywhere else in Africa. That is one reason why we should not boycott African products. It will hurt the Blacks accor- ding to the Zulu leaders. e ‘‘Sojourners’’ magazine. This paper of Jim Wallis and Ron Sider is supposedly “christian’?, but seems to promote the take-over of the world by Russian imperialism. According a to Wallis the Americans are the aggressors. The KGB probably likes that. It is all in the name of “neace’’, @ Mennonites, in my opinion, should know better and should know that the human race has fallen in sin according to their Bible. That means there will be no peace on earth .(except in one’s heart) till after Christ’s return, not one day sooner, Only at that time will people forge their swords into plough shares. @ Only by a true return to God, by a change of hearts, will a measure of peace be restored. If we continue with our abor- tion, lesbianism, gayism, pornography, etc. etc. God’s wrath will remain and there will be no peace. All man-made peace situations will fail. Peace marches will ac- complish nothing. The absence of weapons will accomplish nothing. In the meantime our God-given government has to defend its man- date according to Romans 13. You shall not kill, I shall not kill, you and I have to turn the other cheek, but our government has to yield the sword not in vain. Let us not mix up Biblical truths. God’s peace be in your hearts and minds, Bill Homburg Terrace, B.C. - purported by scientists to . tionalism and the pursuit is dying from one of these ‘essential’ cancers. With the nuclear in-. ‘dustry, we have created a monster with a glossy finish. We are destroying the ecosystem which gives us and maintains our lives and the lives of our children. One grapefruit sized blob of plutonium = evenly distributed, has been have the potential to kill us all. The Swedes have now detected plutonium from Chernobyl. How many grapefruits are out there now? Mankinds’ petty na- of economic growth for its own sake, is letting us live in a temporary euphoria, where most of us care little for tomor- row, Those of us who understand the lesson of Chernobyl, might say that unless we dump our traditional . narcissistic provincialism, dividing mankind into camps and enemies, and don’t start loving this planet half as much as we do ourselves and our institutions, there won’t be a tomor- row. We must at once begin to disband the nuclear industry and put its radioactive poisons into deep storage, along with the fears and distrusts that generated the mind set that has led us to the brink, and begin to write new global constitutions that reflect the com- monality of all mankind and the vital dependency which we all share in the health of this tiny planet. If we can meet this challenge, then for perhaps the first time, mankind may be said to: - have reached true civilization and to be tru- ly a higher form of life. Until then, we are responding, in my opi- nion, like chimps, to leopards, in a knee jerk reaction to fear. It must be kept in mind that if our popula- tion doubles every 33 years, we will need a healthy planet more than ever before, not less, and consequently, we must strive to improve its health instead of the con- verse. Perhaps we should educate our governments rather than tending to be indoctrinated by them. Imagine the wealth, health and joy we could all bask in if we disband- ed our military, worked together for a healthy planet, prohibited the manufacture. and distribution of ‘car- cinogenic substances and responded to interna- tional concerns with love instead of fear.
