Canada Province of British Columbia @ Proclamation ELIZABETH THE SECOND, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom, Canada and Her other Realms and Territories, Queen; Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith To all to whom these presents shall come — Greeting WHEREAS British Columbia recognizes and celebrates the contributions of older people to all aspects of society, and WHEREAS in British Columbia, the social, ethnic, and cultural diversity of older people continue to enhance the lives of all citizens, and WHEREAS seniors constitute one of the fastest growing population groups in British Columbia with approximately 13% of the province’s population being over 65 years, and WHEREAS the 1999 International Year of Older Persons built a foundation for British Columbians to promote understanding, harmony and mutual support across the generations and encourage all sectors of society to be responsive to a diverse and aging population, and WHEREAS Our Lieutenant Governor, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council, has been pleased to direct by Order in Council in that behalf that a proclamation be issued designating the week of June 4 to 10, 2000, inclusive, as Seniors’ Week in British Columbia, and NOW KNOW YE THAT We do by these presents proclaim and declare that June 4 to 10, 2000, inclusive, shal] be known as “Seniors' Week” in British Columbia.
