The end of the summer filled with joy...and water. More than 34 youngsters participated to have fun in French with two extraordinary animators Rose Caron and Fanie Kingsbury. An ideal weather, wonderful young people, remarkable parents and exceptional animators were the ingredients of a success second to none. Thank you everyone and we hope to see you next year ! Summerland In Summerland about 56 families have registered their children in the Francophone Program. Each year more and more children come from Penticton and we want to thank the Conseil scolaire francophone to have granted us a bus service for these children. For years parents used their cars to take the children to school. The news was received with great pleasure. Each year different activities are scheduled like the Francophone Book Festival, the visit of a French writer, Theatre la Seizieme presentation, games on ice, outdoor activities...all in French. This year secondary level students will go to Quebec for a week. It means that the parents committee must find the funding. Secondary students benefit from more courses on Internet, this way, they have more class choice and are in direct contact with other students in the province. For us parents, we are happy to see our children growing up in French and we thank the parents, friends, teachers, administrators and Francophone and Anglophone school boards personnel. Good news for Maillardville as a teacher and as a Principal. He has worked in Ontario within minority surroundings and is very committed to school and community milieu. He recently announced the moving of the program (K-12) to a new school in year 2000. It is a item to follow closely. A planning committee will be created soon. Just as an information, the three schools : Millside, Como Lake and Centennial are all located in Maillardville and the new school will be there too. We are proud to be Francophones and as such, we are called back to our roots. This is the reason why more and more we will use the name of Maillardville to represent us. Summing up on the Court action According to the Federation's President, Mr. Daniel Le Scieller, "The end of the big court actions regarding educational rights claims may not be as far as it seems".To date, the last proceedings were held at Supreme Court of British Columbia from September 22 to the 25". Judge Vickers'décision is expected at the beginning of November. "Even if French education was close to the community's heart and the community was an excellent support, it is, without say, true that parents have been at the avant-garde for actions and demands since 1978 on the educational subject, and for a good reason. Our children are involved ! Now that the time for the claims and demands is coming to an end, we are still avant-gardists as we initiate the process of an educational project." A new direction at the federation des parents francophones The Federation des parents francophones is pleased to announce the nomination of Martine St-Onge as the new Executive Director. Martine possesses an excellent experience in community development and management. As executive assistant since 1997, she also knows what is what in Francophone education. The Board Many things happened in Maillardville since last June. Thejof Directors is pleased to welcome Martine and hope that the new Principal, Mr.Raymond Proulx, has 30 years of experience |challenges will come up to her expectations.
