a . . THE CORPORATION OF THE CITY OF PORT COQUITLAM oom UQUNC OCT 13 198} TO: Mayor and Council October 8, 1981 FROM: Public Works Committee c¢.c. Acting Administrator Report of Public. Works Committee meeting held Tuesday, October 6th, 1981. IN ATTENDANCE: Alderman L.M. Traboulay, Chairman Alderman J.J... Keryluk, Co-Chairman F.E. Peters, City Engineer Doug Vater , Delegation from Fraser Avenue for Item I Alderman M.D. Gates for part of meeting ITEM I Re: Turning of traffic on Fraser Avenue The Committee receivedia delegation from residents of the 2200 block Fraser Avenue. In attendance were Mr. Diplacito of 2238 Fraser, Mrs. Turner of 2226 Fraser, and Mr. Ehmann, brother of the resident at 3123 Shaughnessy. The delegation pointed out the enormous amount of traffic which is using Fraser Avenue west of Shaughnessy street as a turn-around. The prohlem has been particularly severe during the time that Kingsway bridge was closed and 250 vehicles have been counted turning in the street in one hour. Prior to the closure of Kingsway bridge,’ the road was used less frequently but still by a considerable amount of traffic. Some of this traffic comes from the Aggie Park area and the occasional driver ends up on the street because he turns the wrong way off the Lougheed Highway. The main concern of the residents is that this traffic does not proceed to the end of the street to turn around but turns in the driveways and on the shoulders and boulevards adiacent to the homeowners. The residents have attempted to protect their boulevards by the placing of rocks or sections of broken curb but this does not seem to deter the traffic. The residents expressed the feeling that they were sick of the nuisance and fearful for the safety of their children. They would like to have the City install curbs along the road so that the turns are at least limited to the driveways but, of course, would prefer to have the traffic completely off the street or turning at the end of the street.
