BRITISH COLUMBIA HYDRO AND POWER AUTHORIVY “TRANS PORTATION DIVISION 850 S.W. Marine Drive ‘Vancouver, B.C. V6P 5Z1 7 December 1978 Mr. F.E. Peters, P. Eng, City Engineer City Hall *2272 McAllister Avenue Port. Coquitlam, B.C. v3c 2A8 Dear Mr, Peters: In response to your letter of 9 November 197% and subsequent telephone enquiry, I have initiated surveys to: 1, determine usage of the bus zones on Shaughnessy at McAllister; and assess the impact of removing bus service from the Rec. Centre, results of these investigations are as follows: There are no scheduled instances where more than two buses at a time should occupy the zones on Shauginessy at McAllister. If schedule times are not mate, however, it is possible that three buses might be present at the same time for a brief period but a survey taken on one weekday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. did not find any such occurrences. A survey of vehicles parked at or in the immediate vicinity of the Rec. Centre on two successive weekdays indicated that about 50 vehicles per day utilize this lomtion for park and vide, Re-routing the buses via Kingsway, telly and Maryhill would still serve the park and ride users @ith the addition of one or possibly two extra stops) but amess to transit services for Rec. Centre ugers would be distinctly impaired, especially in bad weather. Our Supervisors have not noted any dangerous situations occurring in the Dcop, although the presence of small children crossing in frmt of buses is always a potential hazard in any location, and tiere have been no reported accidents or incidents involving aur buses and pedestrians for at least the last year. eel
