August lith, 1975 and Alderman Traboulay stated he would contact the consultants further on this; however, the rest of the building appears sound. Mayor Campbell then requested that any ideas on restoring the building be submitted in writing. Alderman Ranger advised that he had viewed a number of two and three bay fire halls while on vacation in Eastern Canada, and that the 1974 construction cost was $40.00 per square foot for concrete block with brick facing, and it was agreed that he and Alderman Traboulay would provide the consultant designing the City’s North Side fire hall with the information he had obtained. Alderman Ranger referred to the portion of the Coquitlam River that has been posted by the Simon Fraser Health Unit as being polluted and Alderman Mabbett advised that an effort is being made to determine where the pollution is originating from in order that it can be corrected. Alderman Traboulay referred to the feasibility study for a Regional Auditorium in School District No. 43 (Coquitlam), and Alderman Laking advised that a decision will be made by the three municipalities concerned and the School Board; however, the matter has been tabled until it is known where the Town Centre will be situated. Alderman Traboulay referred to the proposed dyking and drainage improvements to be constructed in the City on a 50/50 cost-sharing basis with the Provincial Government, and Mayor Campbell advised that the dyking should proceed, but only on the City's side of the Pitt River as there is a shortage of funds. Alderman Laking stated his understanding that there is no money available at this time for improvements to the internal drainage system. Alderman Traboulay suggested there should be greater surveillance of traffic at Columbia Avenue and Pitt River Road in view of the present speeding problem. Alderman Mabbett inquired whether there has been any new developments with respect to the proposed shopping centre on the Canadian Pacific Railway Company property South of the Lougheed Highway, and East of Shaughnessy Street, and Mayor Campbell advised he would be meeting with officials of Marathon Realty Ltd., the Railway Company's real estate firm, shortly and would endeavour to obtain more information in that regard from them at that time. /9.
