Peridot Arnel Kyat (rta fiom pap) Newsletter Jan continued her excellent work on the Newsletter over nine editions. November and December issues were combined as a further temporary cost- cutting measure. A meeting with affiliated groups was held in October, and the importance of the Newsletter was confirmed by = these groups. We hope that they will continue to provide information about regional activities. The techni- comer series continued, and the membership 1s encouraged to send in news, your latest dramatic glaze formula or any other information which you wish to share. Awards Unfortunately we were not able to add to the scholarship fund this year, nor will we be able to meet our scholarship carmitments this coming year. Hopefully, as the economy improves, we will be able to re-establish the program. Studio 5 Ailsa Brown was granted the Studio 5 space from May ‘92 to April ‘93. Notices have gone out for the '93/"'S4 competition. Workshops The Guiid in collaboration with several institutions organi zed the following workshops: Matthias Ostermann, Jeff Oestreich, Susan LePoidevin, and John Gill. We look forward to sessions with Vincent Massey, Gwyn §Hansen-Pigott, and others this coming year. ot al Library The Library has the following additions: in video, the film on Harry and May Davis entitled "The Potter's Alternative": and while several publications have been dropped, e.g., American Craft and The New Zealand Potter, the magazine American Ceramics has been added. Publications The monograph on Don Hutchinson was published early in 1992 and represents the first document for the Corpus Vasorum Pacifica, an ongoing collection of information about ceramics in British Columbia. An attempt to secure a grant from the Jean A. Chalmers Fund was not successful, so that the next publication on Sally Michener is currently on hold until funding is available. Special Projects The film “Painting with Fire", featuring Cris Guiffrida and her wood-fired kiln was finally completed and a preview held at Pacific Cinematheque in June. The Guild contributed $2000.00 to this project in 1990. The film in video format Will be available soon. The C ic tion of 5.Cc. Work has continued on the formation of the few foundation {see September newsletter for details). The constitution and by-laws pertaining to election of officers has been revised, thanks to Kersti Krug for her rational approach to the re- write. Final application to Revenue Canada for charitable status is underway. Changes were made to the constitution in order to clarify that the major purpose for the foundation is to support the educational activities of the Guild, rather than taking them over. The new constitution and statement of activities will be reprinted along with the list of appointed officers and directors in the February issue of this newsietter.
