MEETING ] Our meeting takes place Wednesday the 21st of May, at 1359 Cartwright St. Starting time is, as usual, 7:00 pm. Hope to see you there! Our May guest is Daniel Materna. Daniel will do a demonstration as well as a Slide show. Daniel is one of the potters at the back of our gallery. He will be exhibiting in the gallery this month. Opening night is Monday, April the 28th at 7:00 pm. Come and join the fun! Many thanks to Gary Merkel for extending his stay in Vancouver long enough for us to quiz him on his new work. The lovely colours are a treat to see! PRESIDENT'S REPORT It is with great pleasure that I announce that the Potters Guild of B.C. has received it's first major support grant in our history. The federal government, through Pat Carney's office (Van Centre) has granted us approximately $38,000.00 to cover the salaries of three persons for approximately 8 months. The positions are for an arts administrator, a curatorial assistant, and a ceramic technician/ workshop supervisor. This grant is an unemployment top up program, and all applicants will have to be receiving or registrered for unemployment to qualify. The program will then top up their benifits so that they receive an excellent wage and valuable work experience. Our Granville Island facility is definitely helping our credibility and this program will assist us tremendously in estab- lishing a terrific centre for the ceramic arts here in B.C. I would just like to thank Angela Squires and Coralie Triance for their continuous work and support in applying for this program. We are anxious to receive applications or inquiries for these positions as soon as possible. Send your resume to David Zawaduk at the guild office. Congratulations to us all!
