PRESIDENT'SCA (79 SAGE This is a very exciting time in the history of L’ Association des francophones de Nanaimo. We thank you for joining us on November 7 as we celebrated the 30" anniversary of our association and toasted the AFN’s successes with a glass of champagne at the Grand Hotel! There are some new faces on our board of directors. We welcome Nicole Champagne, Marcel Cloutier, Sandra Dillon, and Nick Perron, who join Pierre Lebourgeois, Anne Legal, and Elizabeth Girard. We also have good news to report regarding our new employees. Tracy Allison is busily accumulating sponsors for the 9" edition of the Maple Sugar Festival du Sucre d’Erable; Audette Moreau is in charge coordinating activities for you, the members, and assists our executive director, Nicole Langlois; and Angie Barnard is responsible for the marketing and public relations for our tourism project, “Bonjour!” We are very impressed with their level of expertise and enthusiasm. I also wish to thank you very much for having taken the time to share your opinions and suggestions in response to our survey earlier this year. We are currently working to formulate a strategic plan for 2009 to 2014, and we are beginning the process of developing our communication plan. Your input is part of all our administrative efforts and is crucial in forming relevant and effective plans. Here’s to your health! Art was always a part of his life, even as a young child growing up on the northwest tip of the Island. He learned much from family and friends who were masters in the craft. Ross Hunt and David Gladstone provided guidance and helped to develop this talent that lay dormant during the turmoil years. He would not realize the value of this tutelage until decades later. Fred was also short listed for the 2010 Olympic logo competition in 2005 with his Heiltsuk “spirit Bear” Design Called Awaken The Spirit. LIBRARY ON LINE Our virtual Library is on line!
